A Sea Witch that wouldn't let me stop drawing her. She isn;t finished. There needs to be more waves and stars in the sky and oh, ever so many things... It's silly to put her up on deviantart in this state but she looks almost done so I thought I'd put her on DA and then an updated version later...

I'm looking forward to seeing her finished! I love the lighting so far. That's hard to get right with vectors. The shadows on her neckline look a little odd like shes ballooning out of it but wow the light and shadow look great! I'm impressed with her cheekbones done in shadow as well. Was this in Inkscape? if so, double wow. Oh and thanks btw . =) Now you've got me working harder in Inkscape after seeing what you were able to do with the kingfisher.

The hair is great, but the right side of the forehead seems a bit too pronounced... and she needs a few more hair along the hairline ;). A promising start though. And it is always interesting to see the evolution of a picture. The light works very well.

Thanks, dude, yes, I did wonder about the hairline. It was just very fiddly! I suppose the other thing I'm not sure about is the slightly vacant, doll-like expression... but that's subjective, I guess and I have no idea what to do about it...

I can imagine. Just a layer below the main hair? Going back?

About the face: She doesn't look at the light... maybe that is the problem? Nor does she really look at those who look at the picture. Either direction might just give her expression.

I know what you mean about the direction of view, I think I've been looking at her too long. It doesn't help that I have no reference shot... I'll maybe have to take some life-drawing classes...!

ah well... humans are the hardest because we know ourselves so well so every slight mistake shows. But her face is really not that bad. The flatness stems also from the frontal light. Maybe you could add a tiny shadow below the nose - the greta garbo butterfly - and another below the chin, as there ought to be one too. And the shadow on the side of the nose should extend over the wing of the nose.

That's excellent advice! I shall attempt it! :D

Cheers! Yeah, that took serious effort. I'm not sure I'll set myself such a tough challenge again!!!
